Karl Shoemark

Karl is from Somerset in the south west of England and has always been surrounded by music. But it’s only since driving Route 66 back in October 2014 that he developed an ear for all things country due to stations like KTTS & KIXX Country providing the soundtrack for over 2,448 miles of the mother road.

His gramps would always play country records from the likes of Willie Nelson, Fleetwood Mac & Dolly Parton as they headed to the beaches of the south west on a Sunday when he was growing up so them ‘twangs’, guitars and songwriters stories were always locked in the musical mind of his.

Karl has a National Diploma in Music Technology and has been DJing since the age of 15 and it was at that age he was accepted on, what was then, the Galaxy 101 radio academy.

He was a prominent DJ in the local club scene and later he started with local community station Glastonbury FM where Karl changed the music & format of his show from urban dance, hip hop & UK garage to Country in January 2015.

From the conversion to country he has attended the C2C festival as a fan the past 4 years, been to 3 UKCountryMusic Awards and has seen tours by Sasha Mcveigh, Mo Pitney, Brothers Osborne, Square One, Backwoods Creek & more, Acoustic Journey even played at his wedding!

Karl started his Country Music journey mostly with a preference for the ‘new’ contemporary country scene with Luke Bryan being a favourite among the likes of Aaron Watson, Miranda Lambert, Midland & Granger Smith but has took it upon himself to invest in a vinyl record player and delve back in time to the likes of Merle Haggard, Slim Whitman, Glen Campbell, Tammy Wynette etc etc

Everyday he is blown away by the Country Music coming out of the UK and is now a massive fan of the whole scene!

Karl loves nothing more than a weekend party with good live music, he is on Twitter and Facebook (click the links below) where he loves country music news and banter and wants you to ride with him on his country music journey.

Join Karl every Thursday and Friday morning from 10am on UKCountryRadio.com.
