Chris Erasmus

Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, I grew up between Zimbabwe and South Africa, which shaped my diverse cultural perspective. My academic journey began at Stellenbosch University, but I took a detour to work as a cowboy in Montana for a season, deepening my appreciation for outdoor life. I then moved to Australia, where I attended the University of Queensland, completing an undergraduate degree in business and hotel management, followed by a master’s in business.

From a young age, I started writing and singing around campfires in Zimbabwe, often as the one who brought his guitar along. My love for music grew early, and I enjoyed creating new ideas and lyrics. My goal has always been to make this my full-time job.

While in Australia, I also competed nationally in decathlon, and my passion for athletics extended to triathlons, mountain biking, and horse riding.

Alongside sports, I developed a love for the performing arts, beginning to sing at age seven and performing in musicals, including a notable adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Nicholas Nickleby.

Musically, I have been influenced by various artists who inspire my approach to performance and songwriting. I admire the way Michael Bublé and Robbie Williams bring swing and big band performances to life. Lady Gaga’s songwriting and vocal delivery resonate with me, while Chris Stapleton has served as an inspiration for many years. I would love to share a beer with him and his wife, Morgan, to discuss the creative process. I also appreciate Foy Vance’s talent, Bruce Springsteen’s storytelling, Coulter Wall’s rich tone and guitar work, and Christone “Kingfish” Ingram’s musicianship.

After graduating, I accepted an opportunity to study in New York with Mary Setrakian and Susan Baston. In New York, I released a Billboard-charting song, a cover of Fires, which made an impact on the 2019 dance charts.

After my time in the vibrant city, I moved to London to pursue acting while completing a Master’s in Musical Theatre at Mountview. Despite the challenges posed by Covid-19, which required completing the program from home, I remained focused on my craft.

I have also worked with horses on film sets and collaborated with the talented Scott Jacoby of Eusonia Records to complete my album. Today, I am focused on my music and acting journey, embracing every opportunity to share my talents and passions with the world.
