I am a 51-year-old truck driver from England, driving containers down at Tilbury Docks in Essex, and have been doing music for over three years, although I’m more an aspiring songwriter, compiling demos, than a musician. I work with some brilliant session people, such as Lee Dodson who does the music with me, and Kate Mcgill who does online session vocals. The genres include folk, rock, country, electronic, classical, pop, dance, techno and others, but me and Lee do the rock, folk, country and pop best so I am sticking to those at the moment.
I’m not someone who has ever been musically capable in my life… until everything switched on about three and a half years ago, at around 8 to 8.30pm on 3 January 2021. I know that sounds weird, but it happened to me so I know it does happen. One minute I knew nothing about music, and the next I had this Celtic song about Scotland that is a bit like the Wexford Carol, and was really beautiful. So… you are never too old to start.
Oh, and I’ve just had the ultimate song for a truck driver: my personal own trucking song. It’s fast, catchy and funny – think eastbound/westbound and down – so I’ll be doing that one soon.
My first EP, called “EP1” was released on 20 May 2024 and includes a funky pop/rock song called ‘Cop Chase’, the single ‘Appalachian’, a short folk song called ‘Roe versus Wade’, and a rock song called ‘Afterparty at the Brits or the Grammys’.
Stay good, thanks for reading, Neil Valentine 😉
