The Ponderosa Aces

For decades Country music has been enjoyed by those who love the most recent, modern, artists and those who prefer the more traditional style of the music. In the UK we also have a divide between those who like to dance and those who like to listen. THE PONDEROSA ACES, who make their first visit to the UK in April 2017, are used to people doing both.

The Ponderosa Aces hail from Long Beach, California. They are:
Mike Maddux – Vocals and guitar
Art Rodriguez – Drums
Bigshed – Bass guitar and vocals
Alex “”Hoss”” Griggs – Lead Guitar

Their music is variously described as outlaw, honky-tonk and the new description coined by Dale Watson, Ameripolitan. It is country music which retains a very strong grip on the long established roots of the music, roots which even the most modern stars pay homage to when talking about their own songs.

But do not confuse traditional with old fashioned – every night of the week tens of thousands of Americans descend on local dancehalls and bars to enjoy music just like this.

The Ponderosa Aces play a series of shows in the UK starting at The Stables in Milton Keynes on Saturday April 22nd, continuing on to Gulliver’s in Manchester Sunday 23rd, Jumpin’ Jacks in Newcastle upon Tyne Monday 24th, and The Musician in Leicester on Tuesday 25th.

The London show is at the newly refurbished Borderline on Thursday 27th, and the band then play Fat Lil’s at Witney (Oxfordshire) on Friday 28th before dashing over to Paris to appear at Billy Bob’s Saloon inside the Disneyland complex on Saturday 29th, ending their visit on Sunday 30th at The Haunt in Brighton.

Support on all shows except Paris is the very talented Ags Connolly, a British singer/song writer rapidly making a name for himself….. Ags has already been described as “”an English Willie Nelson””.

The title track from The Ponderosa Aces album “”Honky Tonkin’ My Life Away”” features in the soundtrack of Australian Sci-Fi film “”Project Eden”” which also has a UK Premiere in April 2017.

What can you expect from a live Ponderosa Aces show? Certainly some of their own songs, absolutely some Bakersfield sound, very probably some Merle Haggard, and without a doubt a whole lot of fun. Take your friends, take your dancing boots, come away with great memories of a brilliant night.
