Steve Strawhead is an independent Generation X singer songwriter/guitarist from Peterborough. His influences include The Beatles, Elvis Costello, James Taylor, Billy Joel, Joni Mitchel & Justin Currie. A fan of contemporary artists like Noah Kahan, Teddy Swims & Taylor Swift, Steve’s own output is “unconsciously imbued with a distinctive retro vibe”. His songs are a blend of country-pop, Americana & nu-new wave.
After a lengthy hiatus over over 20 years from music, Steve joined a Facebook songwriting group in lockdown, Talent Is Timeless. This inspired him to write songs and perform again. Winning several songwriting challenges, he was shortlisted for the global TisT song competition and recently supported revered country/folk artist Saskia Griffiths-Moore at several London venues and The Musician in Leicester and is due to support Ezio at The Junction in Cambridge (Dec 7th). A full album is expected March 2025.
Steve’s song Got The T-Shirt won a Jukebox Judgement competition on New-Dawn FM Radio and reached #1 in an audience led vote chart (ahead of Oasis!)
In November 2024, Steve released his debut material It Might As Well Be Blue, a five-track EP which showcases his ear for melody, sensitive wit and captivating vocals, deftly wrapped in a radio-friendly mix of country, pop, Americana and new wave.
Testament to Steve’s sensibilities, he wanted to support musicians from war-torn Ukraine. He found violinist Anna Mozolevich-Primakova online and she features on four of the five tracks, the most poignant being the third track Bad, Beautiful Days, where the pulsating cello in the chorus and goose-bumping violin parts in the verses really add to the drama of the subject matter.
