Slip and Tackle are a songwriting/production duo who hail individually from Essex and Blackpool, but write and record in a small, windowless loft in South London that is only accessible by climbing a ladder – affectionately known as Treehouse Studios!
Launching themselves as a recording act in May 2023, in their first 15 months of releasing commercial pop tracks, they clocked up over 100,000 streams on Spotify alone, but they only began creating music for the country market in summer 2024.
They originally discovered a mutual passion for songwriting and making music when they were both working for an organisation responsible for collecting music royalties on behalf of songwriters and music publishers. They were briefly in a band with some other work colleagues but found they preferred the songwriting and studio elements to the live performance aspect.
Although Slip and Tackle are proud of their recordings, the dream is to bring the songs to the attention of other artists who have access to a professional studio set-up and industry contacts, so they can record and release their own interpretations, hopefully generating sufficient income in songwriting royalties to enable Slip and Tackle to write and record in slightly more glamorous surroundings!
The Cure for Losing You is Slip & Tackle’s first venture aimed at the country market. In contrast to its upbeat tempo and overall feel, the lyrics deal with the pain of losing someone and the numerous attempts at finding a way to stop the heartache, including drinking, prayer, therapy, medication, driving long distances and even trying dating apps, all without success.
Never Take the Country is an abbreviation of the old saying “You can take the man/girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the man/girl”; in this case referring specifically to country music and country living. In the lyric, the idea of moving away from where we were raised to another part of the country, or another country altogether, is seen through the eyes of Nathan and Maisie, but the concept of never forgetting who we are by keeping our culture, memories and things that remind us of where we’ve come from close to our hearts, wherever we travel, is hopefully something that resonates with all of us.
Slip and Tackle’s first festive country Will I Be Alone On Christmas Day? deals with the anticipation of someone special coming home for Christmas, the uncertainty of whether or not they will arrive, and having to face the possibility of spending Christmas Day alone.
