Richard Townend & The Mighty BossCats

Richard Townend & The Mighty Bosscats are an Americana style trio with a versatile style and a musical vibe reminiscent of Dire Straits, JJ Cale, and Chris Rea – presenting a captivating blend of modern contemporary Americana music.

Mundon-based Richard is a highly accomplished singer-songwriter and guitarist with an impressive career in the music industry. Having started his professional journey directly from Leeds College of Music, he initially played for various acts, showcasing his talent with artists like Ronnie Corbett, Dana, The Platters, and Tony Christie, amongst others. After taking a hiatus of about 20 years, Richard experienced a transformative moment at a jam session in 2008, reigniting his passion for music. This led to the release of his first album in 2011, and the formation of The Mighty BossCats, marking the beginning of a prolific phase where he has written over 300 songs and 15 albums. His work has received critical acclaim, resulting in numerous award nominations for both his songs and albums.

The exciting new Bosscats line-up includes the fantastic Matt Gillam on bass and the equally talented drummer Mark Hall, who are both Essex-based. They are a formidable rhythm section and have sympathetically embraced and enhanced the Bosscat sound, putting their signature stamp on the tunes.

The album Photoshoot was released in May 2024. The combination of Richard’s expressive lyricism, exceptional guitar skills, and the collaborative energy of Matt and Mark promises an engaging and memorable musical experience when you catch them live, check out their web site for the next shows !!

“It’s hard not to view Townend as a sort of latter day Mark Knopfler. His lyricism and fretwork both share echoes of the former Dire Straits leader” – Elmore Magazine New York

“This ability to conjure up vivid imagery is a constant throughout the 14 tracks that comprise Ticket to Memphis and it’s a rare thing for an album to hold your attention from the opening lines of the first track to the closing lines of the last.” – Americana UK

“His music is original, thoughtful, sometimes eclectic, superbly arranged and always well played – In sum, this is a delightful gem of an album in search of a patient listenership.” – Pete Feenstra, Get Ready to Rock Radio
