Dumb Little Country Boy

When actor and writer Ben Shockley’s film career was put on hold due to Covid-19 he found the time to indulge his lifelong love of 1950s country music and create the alter ego Dumb Little Country Boy.

During the lockdown months, a drawer full of old diaries and notebooks have been turned into a portfolio of semi-autobiographical songs exploring universal themes of life, death and everything in between. Working remotely, Ben has united musicians with a shared love of Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and the Sun Sound to record an impressive collection of songs. Already these have gained a significant internet following and are available as demonstration recordings, several with accompanying videos.

The Dumb Little Country Boy bandwagon is gaining momentum from its base on the Kent coast to bring original songs, some painfully real others darkly comedic to live music venues around the UK when restrictions are eased. The music will be available on a range of formats which is planned to include ten-inch vinyl – Hank, Johnny and Elvis also started their careers on ten-inch vinyl and if it’s good enough for them…!
