JakLash Cat is a three-piece band, based in Chester, with an Americana/country rock influence, who write and perform their own songs.
About 9 years ago three old friends decided to form a band. The line-up consists of Phil “Lash” Blundell on rhythm guitar and vocals, with Steve “Cat” Pyne on lead guitar and John “Jak” Evans on bass guitar. Luckily Phil discovered that he had a talent for writing songs, with influences ranging from Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash to Tom Petty and, to date, he has completed approximately 40.
A few years ago, the band was featured on Liverpool Football Club’s Sky TV channel, performing one of their original songs “Old Man” at the end of the Thursday night talk show.
The Band’s first album, featuring all original music, “Promises and Vows” was released in 2019 and provided useful experience in working in a recording studio.
From late 2022 to February 2023 they worked on their second album at Crosstown Studios in Liverpool. It’s called “Shooting Star” and, once again, features original songs. It was produced by Jon Lawton, who provided invaluable advice and also added some additional instrumentation on some tracks.
The reviews have been very favourable. Rocking Magpie Radio Show stated that “You’d normally associate quality like this with household names from America/Canada on or about their 4th or 5th album” and Maverick Magazine referred to “the tight knit playing and well written songs”.
Full reviews are shown on the band’s website.
The album was debuted at the Nantwich Jazz and Blues Festival to a favourable audience response and the band is now looking to promote the album with a series of live dates.
